The optimal pressure during the backwashing guarantees the correct functioning of automatic filters (screen, sand and disc filters). Every filter manufacturing company always indicates the minimum pressure of backwashing in the operating instructions to guarantee the cleaning of the filtering element.

The backwashing of an automatic filter is normally performed periodically and by means of pressure difference between inlet and outlet:

PERIODICALLY: at established recurring intervals, even when the filter is clean.

PRESSURE DIFFERENCE: when the filter is being filled with debris, the differential manometer registers the pre-set pressure difference between the input and output collector (e.g. 3 bar in input and 2.5 bar in output). In both cases, the backwashing generates a pressure drop in the output collector due to the drain of the dirty water. This situation can compromise the cleaning of the filtering element.

The solution to manage the problem is the installation, in the filter output, of the PRESSURE SUPPORT VALVE. The valve always keeps the upstream pressure above the minimum pre-set value. The installation of the pressure support valve ensures the maximum performance of the filter during the whole operation period eliminating the interruptions for clogging and blockage, and the interventions needed for restoration.
